So you’re eloping to London. Why not have Chelsea Pensioners as your Elopement Witnesses?

I’ve photographed lots of super intimate weddings and elopements, who have chosen to have these fabulous characters at their wedding. Chelsea Pensioners not only look fabulous in their smart red dress tunics, but they also have great stories to tell.

Many of my clients elope and ask me if I can make suggestions for witnesses, or whether they can just “ask someone on the street”. Well the truth is, Londoners are impatient folk on the whole. There aren’t many occasions when someone is just idling around the King’s Road with time to spare to attend your wedding. I’m always happy to sign the register for you, but that will still leave you one witness short. By booking Chelsea Pensioners as your Elopement Witnesses, you take the guesswork out of your wedding plan. It’s one less thing for you to worry about on the day. I can’t think of a nicer bunch of “strangers” to join you for your ceremony. They certainly won’t be strangers for long.

And so this is what Jan and Vince did for their Chelsea Register Office elopement. The rain was not going to stop these two from enjoying themselves, and they had a great time chatting with John and Walther. They are two of the most cheerful clients I had all year, and were a complete pleasure to work with. I think these photographs reflect their jolly nature.

I had such a lovely time creating these Mayfair Library Summer wedding photos for Irma and Tom, they were a pleasure to work with.

Even though this summer’s day last year  (yes I still have sooo many blog posts to catch up with) was a bit mixed with the occasional raindrops mingling with the sunny sky, everyone was in high spirits. The couple couldn’t stop giggling and smiling throughout the ceremony. That’s not always the case. I’m often surprised how grumpy some couples’ facial expressions are during their ceremony – and it’s always not because they are not happy to be there, but because they are concentrating hard on what the registrar is saying to them. But it doesn’t always make for smiley photographs. Well I had no such worries with Irma and Tom, who are one of the chirpiest couples I worked with all year.

After the ceremony we went off into Mount Street Gardens for a serious of group photos, and then Tom, Irma and I had some time to ourselves to take advantage of the classic Mayfair surroundings for our wedding portrait photos.

Number 34 Restaurant is right next to Mayfair Library Register Office, so we walked over there for the couple’s wedding reception. We timed it extremely well, as the heavens decided to unload a little summer shower on us, just as we were finishing up our portraits. The couple entered their wedding reception to a big round of applause and then continued to mingle with their guests until it was time to sit down for their meal. That was my cue to leave, but not before taking advantage of the funky reception area for one last portrait.

Many congratulations to Tom and Irma!

I am often asked by brides, “what happens if it rains on my wedding day?” You embrace it and have fun with it, is what I always say. Whilst we obviously all hope it stays dry on your wedding day, this is England and there are no guarantees for good weather at any time of year, as this early autumn wedding shows.

Nothing had really gone entirely to plan for Tetiana and Ahmed’s wedding at Chelsea Register Office. This was always intended to be a super intimate ceremony, as there was a much bigger wedding planned in Israel later on in the year. For this civil ceremony in the Harrington Room, the groom’s immediate family had flown in from Israel and the bride’s mother had traveled from the Ukraine (I love it when such diverse nations come together to create new families! Don’t you?).

But there had been a misunderstanding about the ceremony start time, and so the bride and groom arrived, perfectly relaxed, half an hour late for their wedding!  Thankfully, the couple had chosen a super short ceremony with no readings or even an exchange of rings, so there was just about enough time to squeeze the ceremony in before the registrars had to move on to the next couple. On top of that, the Harrington Room is tiny and whilst the registrars generously squeezed in one extra guest (the bride’s mother!), some of the family members had to wait outside the room for the ceremony to finish.

And just to top things off, it had been raining heavily, on and off, all morning. When we came out of the ceremony, it was temporarily dry, but the rain soon came back. So what did we do? Well to start with, Tetiana and Ahmed never once let the rain dampen their spirits in the slightest – and that is the single most important thing, when dealing with a wet wedding. There is no point looking glum and miserable about it, even if it wasn’t what you dreamed of when envisaging your wedding. The couple were prepared for rain and armed with a lovely white umbrella. Did their feet get a little wet? Well yes, but the rest of them stayed dry (unlike me, who did get rather soaked 🙂 ), as we wandered around the nearby streets looking for different types of shelter.

Seeketh and ye shall find! There are doorways and overhangs everywhere, if you look hard enough. And of course, there’s little more romantic than cuddling up under an umbrella together. So I say rain, schmain – bring it on! And look at what we got – aren’t these two gorgeous?

So what if it rain on your wedding day? Embrace it! A.) it's supposed to bring you good luck, and b.) there are few things more romantic than snuggling up under a big white wedding umbrella. This bride and groom certainly didn't let it dampen their spirits.

It really is the luck of the draw with the weather at the moment, and today’s rainy day wedding at Chelsea Register Office is no exception. Anyone would think it’s April and not January the way the weather kept changing.

Today’s couple, Emma and Russell arrived together during a temporary break in the deluge, along with their most immediate family. Their ceremony took place in the Rossetti Room. Emma had the prettiest bouquet of white roses and white anenomes. I just love anenomes in wedding bouquets (even if I struggle to say the name outloud!). And I absolutely adored Emma’s cream lace dress from the House of Mooshki, by the designer Olivia Wright. It was so elegant and classy and fit perfectly! Definitely an early favourite for the best dress of 2014 award.

My second wedding of last weekend, this time, I travelled to Twickenham, where Lucy was getting ready at her parents home.

In the meantime, Dean was greeting their guests at St. Matthias Church in Richmond and seeing to some last minute details.

Then Lucy arrived and it was time for the ceremony.

During the ceremony the heavens opened, so we stayed in the church for a while waiting for the downpour to pass whilst the bride and groom mingled.

Eventually the rain cleared and we headed off to today’s wedding venue, the gorgeous Royal Holloway University in Eggham, Surrey.
