Then we went back to the flat for the final preparations, and for Olivia to slip into her gorgeous Amanda Wakely dress and LK Bennet shoes.
By now the heavens had opened and the cabs hadn’t arrived, so it was a good job that Olivia and Olivier live so close to Islington Town Hall, and we managed to get there just in time for the ceremony.
After a bit of time chatting in the sunshine outside the townhall (yes, sunshine!), the guests all got aboard a classic London Routemaster bus for a tour of London.
Olivier seemed to take to his new role as bus conductor like a duck to water.
First stop was a long Tooley Street for everyone to get off, stretch their legs and for newlyweds and I to take time out for a few portraits.
By the time we got to our next stop on the North side of the Embankment (after much slow-crawling traffic), the heavens had openened again and the guests decided to forego their walkabout in favour of the comfy dryness on the bus. Olivier and Olivia popped out for a little walk though.
So the tour was cut short as it was just taking too long to get through London in the down-pour and we headed straight to Portal, the fabulous Portuguese restaurant on St. John’s Street.
Olivier is a keen photographer himself and had set up his camera for a little “camera booth” action for the guests to help themselves to.
He had also set up a huge screen on which childhood photographs of him and Olivia played on a loop all night.
Not everyone thought that wedding celebrations were terribly interesting… cartoons are MUCH more captivating 🙂
And just as I was due to leave, the two witnesses gave a couple of impromptu speaches.
And just because having a baby and getting married in one month isn’t enough, Olivia and Olivier are also moving to Hong Kong this week – so many congratulations to them both on their marriage and much happiness in their new family life together.
