So here we are – my first Mayfair Library Wedding, celebrating the nuptials of Renata and Myles, with just Myles’ close friend Martin to bear witness. As I mentioned in my previous post, Mayfair Library is the new home of Westminster register office wedding ceremonies, whilst Marylebone Old Town Hall is being refurbished.
Given that I specialise in intimate register office wedding photography, it is not unusual for me to photograph the couple with just the two required witnesses. At Chelsea Register Office, couples who are want to get married all by themselves, often choose Chelsea Pensioners to stand witness for them. At Mayfair Library, the new location for Westminster Register Office weddings, couples don’t have that option. And so it was, that I was asked to be the second witness for Renata and Myles. My first time ever signing a register! Now I understand what my couples and their witnesses go through – it’s so important not to make a mistake, as this is a permanent legal document.
There was a suggestion that I should try to photograph myself signing the register, to have evidence of the second witness signing. And I did try. But at the end of the day, professional cameras do not lend themselves to selfies, and anyway, the task at hand was too important to mess around.
It was a lovely ceremony after which we headed outside to the park next door for the newlyweds’ wedding portraits. There was a little bit of drizzle to start with, but thankfully the rain held off.
Best wishes to Renata and Myles for a long and happy life together.
