Rainy day wedding photography at Chelsea Register Office is a becoming a bit of an area of expertise for me in this grim weather we’ve been having in the last couple of months. In addition to that, not only do most of my January weddings this year seem to take place in the rain, but they’re also starting so late that there’s absolutely no daylight left at the end of the ceremony.
Michi and Sandy’s wedding got the tripple whammy. High winds leading to horizontally lashing rain and sunset before their Rossetti Room ceremony even started. It’s the worst weather I’ve seen yet on a wedding day, and it meant that we ended up shooting ALL of our family groups inside. We shot the smaller family groups in the Rossetti Room after the ceremony, and then were fortunate in that there wasn’t another ceremony after us, so we were able to use the Waiting Room area to get a group shot featuring everyone.
We did, in the end, brave the rain for a confetti shot and one big group shot. We also wanted to get some informal portraits in the rain, but poor Michi was so cold, she was shivering like a leaf, and so we abandoned any further portraits. The indoor portraits had taken up all our time anyway, so it was to time to head home. Nonetheless, it was a lovely ceremony with the coming together of Sandy’s Scottish clan and Michi’s Japanese parents.
