When you have full day wedding photography planned for your wedding, then you have much more flexibility when it comes to either waiting out the rain and heading outside for your portraits when the rains stops, or you have a range of possibilities, location wise, for indoor portraits (although the latter is not necessarily true for all wedding venues).
When it comes to short bookings for intimate register office weddings you simply don’t have the luxury of those choices. Few London register offices are great for indoor portraits, especially when it comes the the more natural, romantic portraits of the bride and groom, and you have a very limited amount of time available for waiting for a quick shower to end. So when my brides ask me “what will we do if it rains on my wedding day”, then my advice is always: EMBRACE IT!
No one actively wants rain on their special day, but a.) it’s meant to be good luck to have some rain on your wedding day and b.) if you’re willing to go with it, you can actually have some fun in the rain. Make sure you get a big white umbrella if the weather forecast looks a bit rubbish in the days before, and if necessary, have some spare shoes with you that you don’t mind stepping into a puddle with – we don’t want you to ruin your wedding Jimmy Choos!
And this is what Isabel and Nick did on their wedding day at Chelsea Register Office. We knew it was going to rain but we weren’t going to let it spoil the day. The result were some really lovely portraits without getting Isabel’s amazing Valentino dress wet, and of course, the indoor ceremony was not affected. Many congratulations to Isabel and Nick!
