Time to catch up on some much needed blogging, with photography from Iva and Tim’s winter wedding at Southwark Register Office. Southwark Register Office is a lovely Victorian Building, which has great daylight falling onto the bride and groom during the ceremony – as a photographer, that makes me happy in my heart and so I love shooting here, even in the midst of winter.
Regular readers of this blog will know, though, that I love winter light. Now, I’m obviously not talking about grim, dark blustery days when it’s raining cats and dogs, but a lightly overcast day in December or January can make for some beautiful, flattering portraits, even more so than a sunny summer’s day sometimes. And so it was on the day that Iva and Tim exchanged their vows.
We started in the Southwark Register Office reception, which is rather glum municipal space, with neon lights and tv in the background, but the couple were so lovey-dovey, I couldn’t NOT include some images from there. Then we were taken through to the ceremony ante-room, where we waited for the registrars to conduct their pre-ceremony interview with the bride and groom. Then, finally, it’s time for the ceremony itself, followed by some portraits in the register office garden. I don’t often use this space when I’m here, as it’s not unusual for there to be lots of garden implements lying around cluttering up the background, but on this winter’s day, everything was nice and tidy and the light was coming from the right direction, so we chose this spot for some family groups before heading out front for our confetti throw.
And then we headed off into the nearby park to use the lovely soft winter light for our wedding portraits. I love this set of images – the light, the setting, the couple – it all came together. Enjoy.
